Pinnacle is the No. 3 Best Workplace in the Country for Financial Services and Insurance

March 27, 2018

Pinnacle Financial Partners has risen in the ranks as one of the best financial services firms to work for in the country. The company ranked No. 3 on the 2018 list of the Best Workplaces in Financial Services and Insurance from FORTUNE and Great Place to Work. Last year, Pinnacle earned the No. 7 spot and just five weeks ago was named the No. 22 Best Company to Work For in the United States.

The ranking is based on surveys of more than 76,000 employees in the sector that look at over 50 elements of their experience on the job, no matter who they are or what they do. The factors include pride in the organization’s community impact, belief that their work makes a difference and feeling their work has special meaning.

“We have built a culture based on genuine caring and concern for each other in both a personal and professional sense,” said Terry Turner, Pinnacle’s president and CEO. “In addition, our associates are free to do what they love and what they are best at without layers of middle management looking over their shoulders. This combination that creates a place where people love coming to work every day.”

Pinnacle’s award-winning culture has made the firm a magnet for the best financial services professionals in the markets where the firm operates. Pinnacle leaders hired nearly 80 financial advisors across its four-state footprint in 2017, and associates in support roles joined the firm at a nearly 3-to-1 ratio to maintain the distinctive service for which the firm is known.

Pinnacle’s status as a great workplace is built on its internal culture, where associates are literally owners in the firm, through restricted stock share grants given to 100 percent of associates, and annual cash incentives for all non-commissioned associates, which are awarded for hitting firm-wide goals, not individual quotas. For 2017, Pinnacle paid out more than $22 million in cash incentives and $15.4 million in equity grants.

“Everyone likes bonuses and stock awards, but the real feeling of ownership comes from connecting each individual’s work to the company’s success,” Turner said. “When everyone knows the goals and leaders are transparent about performance, we can all row in the same direction and know that our work makes a contribution.”

This is Pinnacle’s 14th national workplace award, including being ranked the No. 6 Best Workplace for Women in 2017 and five appearances in the top 10 of American Banker’s Best Banks to Work For list.

Pinnacle Financial Partners provides a full range of banking, investment, trust, mortgage and insurance products and services designed for businesses and their owners and individuals interested in a comprehensive relationship with their financial institution. The firm earned a place on FORTUNE’s 2017 and 2018 lists of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in the U.S., and American Banker recognized Pinnacle as the sixth-best bank to work for in 2017.

The firm began operations in a single location in downtown Nashville, TN in October 2000 and has since grown to approximately $22.2 billion in assets as of Dec. 31, 2017. As the second-largest bank holding company headquartered in Tennessee, Pinnacle operates in 11 primarily urban markets in Tennessee, the Carolinas and Virginia.
