Pinnacle is One of the Country's Best Workplaces for Millennials

Ranking places Pinnacle at No. 24 out of 100 companies listed

June 26, 2018

Pinnacle Financial Partners is among the top companies in the country for Millennial employees. The firm earned the No. 24 spot on the list of Best Workplaces for Millennials Best Workplacesfrom FORTUNE magazine and Great Place to Work®. Both groups named Pinnacle the No. 22 Best Company to Work For in the United States in February.

Rankings were determined by input from more than 434,000 employees at companies across the country. They were surveyed on 50 elements of their experiences on the job, including pride in an organization’s community impact, belief that their work makes a difference and the feeling that their work has special meaning.

“Those are exactly the kinds of feelings we try to instill in our associates, but I’d also add work-life balance, flexibility in work environment and autonomy to do the job you were hired to do,” said Terry Turner, Pinnacle’s president and CEO. “It just so happens that’s what a lot of young people are looking for in their careers, and they have found a welcoming workplace at Pinnacle.”

Companies on the list of Best Workplaces for Millennials stand out for their unique, innovative cultures, which helps them attract and retain associates. Even with a hiring philosophy that seeks out seasoned professionals with at least 10 years of experience for most roles, more than a quarter of Pinnacle’s associates are under 40 years old. With an average retention rate above 91 percent – unheard of in the financial services industry – they are more likely to stay and build their careers at Pinnacle.

“We’ve always said that if we created an engaging workplace where people love to spend their days, we’d attract and retain the best of the best, and that’s exactly what’s happened,” Turner said. “We hire great bankers and then get out of their way, not bog them down with middle managers and someone looking over their shoulder at all times. That’s something people of all ages can appreciate.”

That model is well established in Pinnacle’s home state of Tennessee and has taken hold in the Carolinas and Virginia since the firm entered those states one year ago. So far in 2018, Pinnacle has hired 26 financial advisors in those markets.

“Great Place to Work is proud of these workplaces that give their Millennial employees the tools they need to succeed,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “Organizations like Pinnacle set the bar for other workplaces seeking to retain and develop the next generation of leaders, and they prove that giving Millennials jobs with purpose and meaning drives them to give their best at work, benefitting the company as a whole.”

The Best Workplaces for Millennials is one of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work and FORTUNE based on employee feedback from Great Place to Work-Certified™ organizations.
