Pinnacle Adds Experienced Leader to Take Retirement Program Firm-wide

John Ehmig will lead 401(k) program from North Carolina

April 30, 2018

Pinnacle is planning for an expansion of its retirement program with the addition of John Ehmig as a manager of retirement services. Ehmig is a veteran in this space and will lead development of the retirement line of business across Pinnacle’s entire footprint. He will work from the firm’s offices in the Triad.

“We pride ourselves in meeting the needs of businesses, their owners and employees, and a 401(k) offering is critical to making that happen,” said Erich Hamm, Pinnacle’s trust and investment services manager in the Carolinas and Virginia. “I’ve known John for a long time and watched him develop into a strong leader. His background and experience are exactly what we need to take this program to the next level. It has helped our clients meet their retirement goals for many years, and it’s time for more of our communities to have access to its potential.”

This fiduciary program, called Retirement Point, was a key component of BNC Bank’s trust team and has continued at Pinnacle since the firms’ merger in 2017. It is available to businesses as a 401(k) and nonprofits as a 403(b) solution for their employees.

With Ehmig’s leadership, the program will move beyond North Carolina and into South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Pinnacle now offers a comprehensive suite of wealth services, including investment management, trust and retirement solutions.

“I kept a close eye on Pinnacle when they moved into town, and I quickly saw that they were reviving the community bank model of service in our markets,” Ehmig said. “Erich and his team have a solid program based on a century of local retirement experience with High Point Bank. I’m ready to expand it and turn it into the best fiduciary retirement plan offering in the Southeast.”

Ehmig has 22 years of experience in the retirement sector and comes most recently from BB&T, where he was a vice president and institutional trust consultant. He also spent many years at First-Citizens Bank & Trust in Raleigh as an institutional trust advisor and team leader in corporate retirement plans. He also has served in pension and 401(k) related roles for various firms in Greensboro.

Ehmig earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He holds series 7, 63 and 65 securities licenses, as well as North Carolina life, health and variable annuity licenses. He is also an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) designee.

Pinnacle Financial Partners provides a full range of banking, investment, trust, mortgage and insurance products and services designed for businesses and their owners and individuals interested in a comprehensive relationship with their financial institution. The firm earned a place on FORTUNE’s 2017 and 2018 lists of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in the U.S., and American Banker recognized Pinnacle as the sixth-best bank to work for in 2017.

Pinnacle entered the North Carolina market in 2017 when it acquired BNC Bancorp, known locally as Bank of North Carolina. Pinnacle continues BNC’s practice of offering community bank service with the resources and sophistication of a larger firm.

The firm began operations in a single location in downtown Nashville, TN in October 2000 and has since grown to approximately $22.9 billion in assets as of March 31, 2018. As the second-largest bank holding company headquartered in Tennessee, Pinnacle operates in 11 primarily urban markets in Tennessee, the Carolinas and Virginia.
