Positive Pay Enhancement
We’re enhancing your Payee Positive Pay service on September 3, 2026.
We’re enhancing the Positive Pay Payee match service to strengthen protection against check fraud. This update will provide additional security when verifying the payee information on checks presented for payment against the payee information you provide in your daily Positive Pay check issue file.
What to expect:
You may see an increase in daily Positive Pay exceptions as a result of this enhancement. However, you can greatly reduce or eliminate the number of exceptions and avoid the associated per-item fees by ensuring you have industry best practices in place ahead of this change.
How to prepare now:
- Review updated guidelines.
Read Payee Match Guidelines & Best Practices
- Provide exact payee names.
Enter the complete payee name in your check issue file exactly as it appears on the check. Any mismatch will result in an exception.
- Test file updates with us.
You may have to make changes to your check issue file to ensure the complete payee names are included. Please contact us to help validate changes to your file to ensure it loads correctly.
- Set a daily exception review schedule.
Review and decision exceptions between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. CT / 11 a.m.–3 p.m. ET daily.
- Designate additional Positive Pay approvers.
