News Release:
Pinnacle Grows Nashville Market Share and Total Deposits Faster than Large Regionals
NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 13, 2006 - Pinnacle Financial Partners has grown deposit market share faster than any other financial institution in the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro MSA in the past year and cumulatively over the past five years since its inception, according to the latest data from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) issued today.
While five large regional institutions continue to maintain the top market share spots, the latest FDIC data shows Pinnacle grew its market share at least 1.9 percent more than any of the regionals between June 30, 2005, and June 30, 2006.
Pinnacle, which acquired Cavalry Banking in March 2006, maintained the top spot in the Rutherford County data and even increased its dominant share from 24.19 percent last year to 25.07 percent this year.
As of June 30, 2006, the five largest market share holders were SunTrust (down 2.06 percent), AmSouth (down .77 percent), Bank of America (down .69 percent), Regions Bank (down .66 percent) and First Tennessee (up .67 percent). Pinnacle was up 2.57 percent.
FDIC data measures bank market share every year ending June 30.
Over the past five years, Pinnacle has grown its market share 4.86 percent, compared to SunTrust (down .38 percent), AmSouth (down 2.80 percent), Bank of America (down .11 percent), Regions (up 3.10 percent, reflects its acquisition of Union Planters Bank) and First Tennessee (up 1.25 percent).
Pinnacle, which will hold the fifth largest market share in the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro MSA following AmSouth's merger with Regions, also outgrew all other institutions in total deposits. Pinnacle, which acquired Cavalry Banking in March, grew deposits by $831 million year-to-year, compared to its closest competitor, First Tennessee, which grew its deposits approximately $247 million.
"Nashville's large and fast growing market combined with the very attractive competitive landscape which results from elimination of all the large locally owned banks have enabled us to be one of the fastest growing banks in the U.S.," said Terry Turner, Pinnacle president and CEO.
Of the 59 financial institutions in the Nashville-Davidson-Murfreesboro MSA, 39 gained market share, 15 lost share and five stayed even over the past year, reflecting a longstanding trend toward community banks gaining share from the larger regional and national institutions.
